Edison Brothers Want
Maze!
Edison Brothers want Maze! Those four
words would change my life forever in my secular employment career. You see as
a kid I Was always industrious. Whether I was selling our local paper on a
paper route in the early mornings to make me some extra cash for candy and
chips. Or attending a Community College while in middle school for $85.00 a
week. But when it came to my first real job, I would like to tell you how I
landed the prestigious job with one of the most lucrative companies in the
retail industry in the United States. That company was Edison Brothers Stores.
Long forgotten the giant they were, but that is why we have Google! EBS
dominated the women fashion in women shoes and apparel until finally collapsing
in the millennial to shoe outlets such as payless and other discount stores.
And yes, I did work in the capacity as one of the salesmen. Now do not get it
twisted, in the early eighties through the early nineties, being a lady’s shoe
salesman for a company like Baker shoes was a job that was desired, we made a
good income. But that is not the reason Edison Brothers wanted Maze. Let me
tell you why. I was a junior in high school and I was attending O’Fallon Tech
for plumbing. Companys would always reach out to the technical schools for
students to have a opportunity to work half of the day and make a income to
help with their senior activities and such. My
plumbing teacher chose two students that he felt would be presentable to Edison
Brothers and set us up for an interview. Maze and Murphy was his choice. Murphy
was a capable student as well as I were. The difference between us was
showmanship. I learned for me to get hired I had to say something and present
myself better than my competition. Murphy was the more capable, but he was
quiet and reserve and could not wow the employer. But I on the other hand, I could.
I had to speak up! I had to say what I could deliver even If I could not.
(Today they call it fake it to you make it) Well, the next day as we waited for
my teacher to tell us who landed the job. My teacher screamed out- ‘Edison
Brothers Wants Maze!’ And as a working person, my life would never be the
same, when it came for interviewing for a job. I have had over seventy interviews and over sixty companies that hired
me. Yes, you read it right I have been employed with over sixty employers and
counting as I am writing this. When I asked Google how many jobs a person have
in a lifetime, this is what I got ‘The
average employee stays with their employer for 4.1 years as of
January 2020. However, this number varies slightly between women (3.9 years)
and men (4.3 years). Men hold 12.5 jobs in their lifetime, on average, while
women have 12.1 jobs.
It turns out that the
average person has twelve jobs! And this is during a span of 32
years, which means the number is probably higher for a person's entire
lifetime. This number may be higher than imagined, but switching jobs due to
better pay, benefits, company culture, and location are extremely common.’

Now I know what you are thinking. They
must have been low paying jobs and independent companys, right? Wrong! AT &T,
Manager of Family Dollar, Contract with The Veterans Affairs, Anthem, Express Scripts,
NBC, Medica Health, United Health Care, Magellan Mental Health, University of
Missouri, St Louis Police Dept. Not even scratching the surface of my
employers! Yes, I changed jobs like people change underwear. But just like the
underwear it was always my choice-95% percent of the time. Its do what I say,
not what I do! I can help you in your interviews and resumes. I can prepare you
for the job you want, and I can help you when you need help in filling out that
application that is now done mostly online. Can you do this all by
yourself-Yep, you can, but how is that working out for you? But if you are
having difficulty finding employment or losing interview wars (And believe me
it is a war)
